Mission Statement
At Piano With Jasmine, my mission is to inspire a lifelong love of music by providing personalized, high-quality piano instruction in a nurturing and supportive environment. I believe in fostering creativity, discipline, and a deep appreciation for music, while empowering students of all ages and skill levels to reach their full potential. Through a blend of technical mastery, artistic expression, and a commitment to each student’s unique learning journey, I strive to make music an enriching and transformative experience for all.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that lessons should be a combination of three elements: 1. Fun, 2. Learning, 3. Contribution to a personal goal. These three goals can be achieved at any age and with every type of student. I believe in fully customizing my lessons and curriculum to each individual student; no two students' lessons are alike!
I do my best to incorporate each of the following skill areas to my lessons as well:
I do my best to incorporate each of the following skill areas to my lessons as well:
- Theory (written musical study that reinforces concepts learned at the piano and contributes to a deeper understanding of how to read music)
- Technique (exercises that improve the complex physical skills involved in playing the piano)
- Sight Reading (being able to play a piece of music at a proficient level without having practiced it)
- Ear Training (playing music by ear and learning how to recognize patterns by ear)
- Performance (bringing pieces to performance level, possibly memorizing them and/or performing at recitals, which I hold twice a year)
Small Group Lessons
Small group lessons have tons of benefits, including:
Small group lessons have 3-4 students of similar ages in each group. Lessons are 50-55 minutes long and follow a similar format to private lessons where students work through their lesson and theory books along with supplemental music. But they also have the opportunity to perform and give each other feedback, play peer duets, have solo practice time with headphones (with a splitter so I can listen too!), and play music games with their peers.
- Teaching students HOW to practice, so they don’t feel anxious approaching practice on their own at home
- Building confidence in students’ critical thinking & problem solving skills, confidence which overflows into all other areas of their personal lives
- Sharing the learning experience with peers, bringing joy & connection on a deeper level to the lesson experience
- Ample performance opportunities which will increase confidence & decrease performance anxiety
